Description

The M12 is a fast, lightweight assault gun designed in 1943 to support airborne troops. Equipped with two 106mm recoilless rifles, the M12 is capable of defeating armor with High Explosive Anti-Tank rounds, infantry with High Explosive rounds and fortifications with High Explosive Plastic.

Initially, the M12 had 4 fixed .30cal machine guns mounted in the hull fired by the driver which were removed later in production as they were difficult to aim without causing inhibiting the turret crew's performance. In addition two spotting rifles were later added over the main guns to assist with long range fire.

The driver is the only crewmen in the hull, the gunner, loader, loader/radioman, and commander all sit in the small turret. The gunner is capable of firing both guns independently of one another, but should he be unavailable, the turret and guns can be operated by the commander.

The M12 can carry 14 (seven per gun) 106mm recoilless rounds within the turret along the walls and by the loader's feet and can be loaded into the guns from within the turret. The recoilless rounds come in two parts, the round itself, and a primer which is loaded in a 7-round magazine in each gun.

Post-war, the M12 saw extensive service in numerous small countries well into the late 20th century.

Recoilless always has that one pain of blowing out the back.  So you are also forced to external loading.
Ontos just hung six of them around the sides with a loaders hatch at the back.
The loader might get some protection.
But it was a light vehicle and could huck a lot of shells in one loading.
